Hypnotherapy:

Helping you create the change that willpower alone cannot achieve

Hypnotherapy – or hypnosis therapy – is a safe and gentle way to change your emotional or behavioural patterns. Because sometimes, even though you have the willpower and insight into your actions, thoughts, and patterns, change seems out of reach.

I offer hypnosis therapy online and in person in my practice in Odense, Denmark. As both an experienced psychotherapist and certified hypnotherapist, I offer you a unique and powerful combination of psychotherapy and hypnotherapy.

You may already know what you want to change:

  • stop smoking

  • sugar cravings or binge eating

  • insomnia

  • fear of flying

  • anxiety, stress, and depression

  • low self-esteem

  • emotional patterns and beliefs

  • repeating relationship patterns

Yet somehow, you are always pulled back into the same habits and patterns.

Willpower alone just doesn’t seem to be enough.

If this sounds familiar, hypnotherapy can offer a different way forward.

What is hypnosis therapy?

Put simply, hypnosis therapy (or hypnotherapy) is a therapeutic method that works with the connection between your conscious and subconscious mind.

In everyday life, many of your thoughts, behaviours, and emotional reactions happen automatically.

They are learned and maintained through unconscious processes, shaped by your past experiences.

Hypnotherapy allows you to work directly with these patterns.

In practice, this happens through a natural state of focused attention – similar to becoming absorbed in a book or lost in a daydream.

This means that you are not asleep and you do not lose control. You remain aware, present, and able to respond and stop the process at any time.

Hypnotherapy – how does it work?

Next, let’s look at how hypnotherapy works.

Many behaviours are learned through repetition. Over time, the mind creates strong links between certain situations and specific responses.

For example:

  • stress → smoking

  • difficult emotions → eating

  • performance pressure → anxiety

  • relationship triggers → withdrawal or overreaction

These are not just “bad habits”. They are adaptive strategies.

They are ways in which your mind and nervous system attempt to protect and regulate you through difficult situations.

Hypnotherapy works by guiding you into a state of focused attention and then, by gently accessing your patterns, helps your system reorganise these to create new and healthier strategies.

In practice, this involves:

  • looking under the surface: What lies behind the behaviour?

  • understanding how these patterns were formed.

  • finding new ways of responding that feel calmer and more secure.

  • supporting a deeper connection between your thoughts, emotions, and body.

The process is collaborative and takes place within a confidential and carefully structured therapeutic setting. You will remain in full control, and we will work at a pace that feels safe to you.

Hypnotherapy – does it work?

A common question is: Does hypnosis therapy work?

In short, yes! For many people it can be highly effective, particularly when working with patterns that are not easily changed through talk therapy and willpower alone.

Hypnotherapy is widely used in clinical and therapeutic settings to support such issues as:

  • anxiety and stress regulation

  • habit change

  • emotional responses

  • performance and confidence

However, it is important to understand that hypnotherapy is not a quick fix.

The effectiveness depends on both your readiness for change, the quality of the therapeutic relationship, and that we work at a pace that is safe and sustainable to you.

When integrated with psychotherapy – as in my practice – hypnotherapy becomes part of a deeper process that supports both insight and lasting change.

How I practice hypnotherapy

In my practice, hypnotherapy is not just used in isolation.

Instead, I work integratively, combining psychotherapy and hypnotherapy within my own therapeutic framework.

This means we don’t only work with symptoms or habits.

We also work with the underlying emotional and relational patterns, just as we will work with your nervous system’s ability to regulate through difficult emotions.

Hypnotherapy can create change at a deeper, often unconscious level. Psychotherapy helps us understand, integrate, and anchor that change in your everyday life.

This allows us to create change that lasts and feels aligned with your values and identity.

For example, we might:

  • use hypnotherapy to access and shift a pattern.

  • and psychotherapy to understand where it comes from, as well as

  • support you in integrating the change in your thoughts, emotions, and relationships.

For some, hypnotherapy stands on its own. For others, it becomes part of a deeper therapeutic process. We will always adapt the approach to you.

Hypnotherapy sessions are slightly longer than talk therapy sessions – typically 80-90 minutes, the first session is 90-105 minutes. This allows us sufficient time for deep, guided exploration and integration.

I work with both individuals and couples, and I offer sessions in English and Danish, online and in person in my clinic in Odense, Denmark. Click here to view my prices and cancellation policy

You don’t need to be certain before reaching out. Book a free and non-binding consultation where you can ask questions and explore if hypnotherapy is the right approach for you.

What can hypnotherapy help with?

Hypnotherapy is particularly helpful when there is a gap between what you consciously want – and what you repeatedly find yourself doing, feeling, or thinking.

For example:

Hypnotherapy to stop smoking

You’ve tried before, but hypnotherapy may finally offer the support you need to quit smoking.

Anxiety & hypnosis therapy

Maybe you’re experiencing general anxiety, social anxiety, or anxiety related to stress or performance such as exams or work presentations. Perhaps you have a fear of flying. Hypnosis therapy can help relieve your anxiety and allow you to live a life of more calm.

Hypnotherapy for weight loss

Sugar cravings and emotional eating are habits that are hard to kick. Hypnotherapy can help you get to the root of your emotional eating and support you towards better weight regulation.

Hypnotherapy for expats

Living abroad often brings unique emotional challenges, such as

  • feeling disconnected from yourself or others

  • difficulty settling or feeling “at home”

  • increased stress or anxiety

  • changes in your sense of identity

  • increased relationship conflicts

In these situations, hypnotherapy can support deeper emotional regulation and help create a stronger sense of internal stability.

Hypnotherapy can also help with…

…issues such as insomnia, gambling, and emotional and behavioural challenges in children and adolescents.

In addition, when combined with psychotherapy, hypnotherapy can support:

  • coping with past or present trauma

  • challenges with emotional regulation

  • attachment difficulties and recurring relational conflicts

  • low self-esteem, persistent self-criticism, and feelings of shame

The work done in hypnotherapy can be combined with psychotherapeutic work and vice versa.

A
Q

Can hypnotherapy and psychotherapy be combined?

Yes. In many cases, combining hypnotherapy and psychotherapy can create a more complete and effective process. We will always decide together what approach is most helpful for you.

A
Q

Do I need both hypnotherapy and psychotherapy?

No, not necessarily! Some clients come for a focused hypnotherapy process, while others benefit from a combination of both approaches. This depends on what you would like to work with, and how deeply the patterns are rooted. We will explore this together and adjust along the way.

A
Q

How do I know if I should choose hypnotherapy or psychotherapy?

You don’t need to decide this on your own. If you are unsure, we can explore it together in a first session or consultation. Often, the process evolves naturally. Some situations benefit from a more direct hypnotherapeutic approach, while others call for a slower, more exploratory therapeutic process.
