Online therapy
for expats

With online therapy, you can get the help you need from the comfort of your couch - wherever in the world you might be. I conduct online therapy in English for expats all over the world, helping them with the challenges that many expats face. I offer both individual therapy, couples therapy and coaching online.

For Danish expats I also offer online therapy in Danish. You can read more about this on my Danish website.

Though I must admit I prefer meeting and conducting sessions face to face, I also recognise that sometimes this is inconvenient or even impossible. With the covid-19 crisis, the online part of my practice has grown. And as we have all had to become more accustomed to working online, I have learnt that it’s perfectly possible to conduct high quality therapy without physically sitting across from each other.

Over the years, I have worked with individuals as well as couples from all over Europe and as far away as Africa, Asia and America. If you are in a different time zone, but are curious to work with me, you are welcome to contact me to see if we can find a mutually convenient time to meet online.

Online therapy is done in line with the recommendations from the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP).Sessions take place via Zoom which the EAP deems highly secure as it meets the very high standards of “HIPAA” - the USA legal system for online security.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy sessions with me work much like in-person sessions: I strive to create a warm, empathetic, and confidential environment. I draw on my professional experience and education in order to tailor the therapy to your unique needs and challenges. You can read much more about my methods and procedures for individual therapy here, and for couples’ therapy here.

Prior to a session, I will set up the session in Zoom and send you the login details in a coded, encrypted e-mail. There is no need for you to download Zoom; just follow the link in the encrypted e-mail which will contain the session ID as well as the password needed to enter the session.

Your name or any other personal details will not appear in Zoom. All sessions are set up using your initials and are password protected. Unless otherwise agreed, I don't record sessions and don't accept you making a recording either.

Please be on time for the session; as in my physical practice, any lateness will be considered to be part of the time allocated to the session.

For you to make the most of online therapy, please be mindful of the following:

  • Find a private, secure place for the session.

  • Ensure no one else can see the screen, nor overhear the sound.

  • Be aware of speaking too loudly.

  • If on a shared computer/phone, you may want to clear your browser history to make sure others don't breach your privacy.
